Professional Development & Mentorship

Professional Development Program

Our education and training should not end when we graduate from a school of Ayurveda, Jyotish, or Yoga Therapy. In a sense, graduation is just the beginning. In many martial arts traditions, the black belt is considered the beginning of true practice. Graduates and new practitioners have layers of advanced training ahead of them. Rather than practicing from home in an isolating environment, Sevanti Wellness members maintain exposure to novel and advanced practice skills and concepts. They benefit from community support and a peer practice environment.

Most importantly, you will continue to learn from our more experienced department Advisors and guest instructors. Each department will maintain 2-4 Advisors available to offer PD workshops. Departments will occasionally invite outside guest instructors as well. Topics will be related to your department’s field of practice and the growth of your practice. Each department will develop a unique PD program based on their discipline’s spirit, character, and practices. Check with the Department Director and Advisors for more details.

Professional Development Outline

Professional Development programming will include a combination of leadership workshops (mostly free with some for a fee), practitioner workshops presented by practitioner team members with authorization from their department advisor or mentor, and national exam prep courses. Many of our courses are accepted for continued education credits at NAMA and IAYT.

Leadership Workshops

PD Directors, Department Advisors, and guest instructors will offer the following:

1. One or more monthly PD workshops: 60-90 minutes on a topic related to your practice field. No fee.
2. One or more quarterly PD workshops: 3-4 hours. Minimal fee. TBD.
3. Two biannual PD trainings: an in-depth online retreat and PD Immersion. Fee TBD.

Workshops and training will be of two types: department-based training and inter-departmental training. Department-based training includes content specific to your department, including clinical methodologies, client management, principles, and clinical practice theories. Inter-departmental training includes content that any practitioner would benefit from learning, regardless of their field of practice. These would consist of personal development, data management, business development, teacher training, marketing, branding, and technology used in practice, among other topics.

Practitioner Workshops

Practitioners are encouraged to offer workshops to other team members. Department Advisors must approve the workshops, which are provided at no cost. The workshops aim to educate one another and improve teaching skills. Workshops may be department-based or inter-departmental in content. If you have skills that would benefit others, please share them with the other team members. If you are in an Education Mentorship, please speak with your mentor about offering a workshop.

National Certification Exam Prep Courses

Sevanti Wellness team members are not required to be recognized by national trade associations such as the National Ayurvedic Medical Association (NAMA) or the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT). We aim to support graduates immediately upon graduation before they potentially drop out of practice. The period between graduation and NAMA/IAYT certification is critical. Though we do not require it, NAMA and IAYT recognition is a powerful step in your professional development, and we suggest you consider professional membership.

NAMA and IAYT have national certification exams. Preparation for these exams can be a bit intimidating without guidance. Sevanti Wellness will offer prep courses for both exams to support you on that journey.

Continued Education Credits

If you are a professional NAMA or IAYT member, you must submit continued education hours to maintain your membership. NAMA’s Professional Ayurvedic Continuing Education (PACE) program requires professional members to complete 30 credits every two years. IAYT requires at least 24 hours (24 CEs) of IAYT-approved continuing education every three years. Your attendance and teaching time at Sevanti Wellness may be accepted for CEU credits.

Mentorship

The SW Mentorship enables our practitioner members to receive personalized support and guidance from a more specialized, experienced mentor within their discipline. In addition to the community peer exchange that comes with general SW membership, our mentors offer both one-on-one and group support at a higher standard of guidance.

Mentorship will be offered in two formats: individual and group sessions. Each department will develop a unique mentorship program based on the needs and practices within their discipline. Check with the Department Director for more details.

Choose a Mentorship Focus:

Clinical Mentorship

Focus on the best practices for case management and advanced clinical skills required to improve client outcomes more effectively. Most of these skills are not taught in schools and come from years and sometimes decades of experience. They are unique to each practice discipline and focus on building realistic and effective treatment plans and improving patient compliance.

Practice Management Mentorship

Focus on the business development skills needed to grow your practice. Skills include practice management, marketing, brand building, mindset, virtual tools, and reciprocal referrals.

Educational Mentorship

Focus on the skills required to teach your area of practice confidently. Skills include curriculum development, effective communication, storytelling, ethics, handouts/manuals/visual aids, course structure, course duration, team teaching, marketing and enrollment, virtual and in-person etiquette, teacher-student boundaries, live and recorded streaming, platforms that support online teaching, and the use of social media.

Mentorship Requirements

The Mentorship Program is a unique opportunity for our Team Practitioners to participate in clinical practice at Sevanti Wellness while receiving continued supervised guidance. We believe that graduating from a school in Ayurveda, Yoga Therapy, or Vedic Astrology is just the beginning of the path to competency. Mentorship is an excellent way to continue to grow.

Sevanti Wellness requires the following to participate in our mentorship program.

Available to SW Team Practitioners Only

Mentee must be a member of Sevanti Wellness in good standing. They must be accepted into one or more of the three SW departments: Ayurveda Counseling, Yoga Therapy, or Vedic Astrology. Payment of your monthly practice membership fees must be in good standing. Your professional liability insurance policy must also be active with Sevanti Wellness added as an additional insured.

Mentorship Fees

Mentorship fees will vary by department and mentor. Mentees are responsible for scheduling sessions and paying all mentorship fees directly to their mentor. Fees may be required to be paid on an hourly or monthly rate. Online access to your mentor, including hours and days of availability, will be unique to your mentor.

Mentorship Case Management

Mentees are recognized as professional practicing members of Sevanti Wellness. We recognize that you are seeking further guidance and refinement of your skills. Mentees are expected to independently manage the communications, case intake and reports, and rapport of their clients. As a professional, you are responsible for the quality and outcomes of those cases.

Individual Mentorship

Challenging clients are the most fruitful to learn from. When faced with a challenging case, the mentee should schedule a session with the mentor for supervision. Each mentor will have different hours of availability. Individual mentorship is a private, personal, and professional relationship with one aim only - to advance the clinical skills of the mentee in order to improve clinical outcomes with their clients.

Group Mentorship

Some mentors may choose to host a group meeting of their mentees. Mentorship is a private process and yet there are universal teachings that are useful to share with other mentees. Your mentor may ask you to share such insights with other mentees at a group mentorship meeting. Group meetings create an environment of mutual support and growth. Group mentorship is available at the discretion of each mentor.

Ethical Conduct

As a SW Team Practitioner and mentee, you are expected to follow the highest standards of ethical and professional conduct with your clients, mentor, SW Team Practice co-members, and leadership team at all times. These standards are found in your Practitioner Contract. Violations may result in being removed from the Mentorship Program and SW practice. Such judgements are made by the leadership team.
